The line graph compares statistics on the possession of cars per household in Great Britain over a period of 35 years from 1971.
It is clear that there was an increase in the proportion of car ownership in Britain throughout the given period. However, the figure for households without a car dropped dramatically, while the figure for households with two cars witnessed a surge.
In 1971, nearly half of the British households did not use any cars. During the same period, around 44% of households possessed one car, and this figure was six times as high as the rate of households having two cars, at approximately 7%. Besides, households with more than two cars accounted for the smallest rate in Britain, with just only 1%.
By 2007, the possession of one car in each household had fluctuated slightly, to 44%. Whereas the percentage of households without a car was in a downturn of 25%, there was a sharp rise of 15% in the percentage of two-car households. In contrast, there were no significant changes in the proportion of households using three or more cars in Great Britain as a whole, with below 10%.
