Voynich manuscript origin
The reading passage explores several possible origins of Voynich manuscript, a script with complex secret codes, and several theories are given in support of these statements. as reasonable and substantiated as these points are, the professor casts doubt on them, implying that the people mentioned in the article are unlikely to be the real author of Voynich.
To begin with, the author of the article suggests that it was aa, a physician and botanist that composed this script with complex codes to document his genuine work since the handwriting in this script was similar to that in Augment’s book. Conversely, disputing the author’s point of view, he cites Augment’s book as proof that aa was an ordinary person, which didn’t correspond to the complex codes in the script. Therefore, the lecturer believes that aa had nothing to do with this script.
Second, even though the author proposes Elbert as the composer of the script and implies that Elbert served this script as a book of magical secrets to fraud a wealthy noble, the lecturer argues that it is a misconception. This is because people in the 16th century were quite naive, it wasn’t necessary for Elbert to create such complicated books and put so much effort to extract the money. Accordingly, the lecturer rules out the theory that Elbert was the original composer of this script.
Last but not least, the lecturer acutely identifies a weakness in the article that v created this fake script to sell it as a mysterious old book. He states that the ink on the script was at least 400 years old, which was unlikely for v to acquire. As a result, the lecturer indicates that the script probably was created centuries before obtained by v, dismissing that v was the author.
