Main idea of both the text and the lecture is about type of whales that produce loud noises, named 52 hertz whale. The author of the passage, by providing three theories, states the reason for these whales high-pitched sounds. However, the lecturer rejects these theories and says that each theory has flows and I will mention them in the following paragraphs.
First of all, the writer of the article brings up that this high-pitch sound is the result of the hybrid offspring of different species of whales. On the other hand, the speaker casts doubt about this notion and declares that it is unlikely because they have different migration patterns. He adds that, all hybrid whales migrate with other whales, while this particular whale does not migrate alongside other whales, which is unusual. Hence, this whale have different migration pattern and the theory is not correct.
Second of all, the writer of the reading avers that 52-hertz whale probably has damaged hearing, and therefore he can't hear and create sounds like other whales. The professor, on the contrary, explains that this pitch sound is created by throat and it's origin is throat, but this high pitch sound is very unusual. This high pitch sound is not produced because of the damage to the hearing, since there is no connection between hearing and throat.
Thirdly, the author of the passage posits that this whale belongs to a rare species and most of them are dead. The professor, conversely, explains that this is not true. This whale should have parents that have similar sound to this whale, but scientists could not detect other whales, by their developed technologies that produce the same sound and songs, so the theory is flowed.
