The line graph depicts the amount of oil produced and consumed in China from 1982 to 2006. The unit is measured in millions of oil barrels per day.
Overall, it is evident that there was an upward trend in the two factors in the given period of time, yet the oil consumption rose at a faster rate than the oil production.
As can be seen from the graph, in the first year of the observed time span, China's oil consumption and production were virtually identical, with 1.9 and 2.1 million barrels respectively. Besides, the period between 1986 and 1990 witnessed a gap of 1 millions of oil barrels between the oil supply and demand, of 3 million and 2 million in turn.
It is noticeable that in 1994, the quantity of the oil consumption on a daily basis in China surpassed that of the oil production, at 3.5 million and 3 million of oil barrels each. Moreover, during 12 years from 1994, a dramatic growth of 2.7 million barrels is recorded for the consumed oil whereas the figures for production of oil slightly increased by 0.5 million.
