The given pie charts compare the expenses in 7 different categories in 1966 and 1996 by American Citizens.Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.
Two pie charts elucidate the amount of money spent by American citizens on daily goods which are classified into 7 categories (petrol, furniture, computer, books, cars and foods) from the period 1966 to 1996.
At the beginning of the period, more than half of USD were spent on food categories (eat outside and eat inside) whilst just over one fifth of money was spent on cars. This indicates that, American people spent more on food than any other categories in 1966. Within 30 years of the time, this spending habit changed significantly especially on cars and food. The percentage of food dropped to 28% - there is an equal proportion spent on eat at home and eat at restaurants; 14% each. The more money has been received on cars as nearly half of portion took up for this category.
Meanwhile, other categories also showed some fluctuations in the portion of expenditure made by USA residents. In 1966, the resident of the US spent more on books (6%) than on computers (1%); this reversed in 1996 – people more likely to purchase computers than those of books. The expenditure on petrol and furniture declined from 9% and 10% in 1966, respectively to reach at 8% for both.
