Overall, there was an increase in the percentage of expense spent on housing, food and luxury goods. By contrast, the figures for clothing, entertainment, and travel declined; specially, the amount of resource consumed for clothing experienced the most noticeable fall.
In 1958, the rate of clothing was highest, at 32%, while the figure for housing was slightly lower, at 22%. Meanwhile, the percentages of spending spent on food and entertainment were 8% and 18% respectively; while 13% of cost paid for transport, compared to only 7% of the proportion of spending used for luxury goods.
In 2008, the share of housing’s expense considerably increased to 32% and became the highest figure in the chart. Similar changes, but with slighter extent, can be seen in the figure for food and luxury goods, which went up by around 10% to 17% . Whereas, the percentages of resource expended on entertainment and travel dropped to 16% and 6% respectively, while the figure for clothing experienced a remarkable fall to 12%.
