Schools should not force chldren to learn a foreign language To what extent do you agree or disagree

Essay topics:

Schools should not force chldren to learn a foreign language. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

With cultural and economic integration, learning a foreign language has become one of the obligatory subjects studied in schools. While I believe that it is useful for schoolchildren to learn a foreign language, I agree that they should not be forced to do so.
On the one hand, there are various reasons that children should be encouraged to learn a foreign language but I am telling two main reasons. The first reason relates to improved chances of extending knowledge and future careers. For instance, by studying the language they will learn about the culture of that country, and schools organize exchange programs and scholarships annually; as a result, they are an opportunity for you to improve yourself and be fully equipped with knowledge in the future. In addition, you can use language flexibly in specific situations such as communicating with native speakers or reading articles written in English. Thus, you gain more because you have more experience and skills than your peers.
On the other hand, several reasons explain why I believe that it would be counterproductive to forcibly oblige schoolchildren to learn a foreign language. Firstly, learning languages relates to natural abilities. For example, some children prefer learning arts, or science to languages. Therefore, if parents force them, they easily lose motivation and passion. Furthermore, it can waste time if they cannot see why it may be relevant for their present and future lives. Consequently, they lose direction and feel like a failure.
To sum up, students should instead be motivated to learn a foreign language because of the reasons above. In addition, schools should make it optional to learn foreign languages and students should not do it against their wishes.
