Summarize the points in the lecture, being sure to explain how they address the specific concerns about forest fires described in the reading passage.
Both the reading and the lecture discuss the “let it burn” policy. The reading disagrees with the policy for three reasons. However, the professor strongly disagrees with the reading passage.
First of all, the reading mentions that Yellowstone fires cause tremendous damage to the park’s trees and other vegetation. Yet, the lecturer severely challenges the theory by there are new plants growing diversely after fires. To be more specific, after trees destroyed, small plants can grow on the unshaded area. Therefore, the fire creates the opportunity for plants to grow.
Secondly, the passage suggests that wildlife is affected, too. Nevertheless, the scholar seriously contradicts the reason because it is also an opportunity for animals to grow. To elaborate, some small animals start to grow because small plants replace trees. Furthermore, small animals become food for predators. As a result, the food chain is stronger than before.
Last but not least, the article indicates that the fire compromises the value of the park. Once again, the speaker opposes the evidence in the reading passage. To elaborate, Yellowstone never happened this kind of massive fire in the past. Apparently, visitors might come back to see this kind of fire again.
In conclusion, the professor argues against each theory in the reading. That is to say, she mentions that the “let it burn” policy is acceptable.
