Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
The reading and the lecture are both about the American multinational corporations adapting a uniform code of American ethics internationally also. The lecturer casts the doubt on the reading passage by providing three disadvantages of implementing such uniform code of ethics internationally .
According to the reading text, one of the greatest benefits of such policy would be increased safety since American safety regulation are more strict. The lecturer opposes the claim by stating that “ When in Rome, do as the Romans do”. He further supports his claim by giving an example of cellphones which wanted to expand in China but were not able to open because they could not adhere to Bluetooth law, which was a country law. This cost the company millions of dollar. So the lecturer suggests that local law should be followed instead of international.
Secondly, the reading passage says that the American code of ethics provides better working conditions and also law dictate employees to receive livable wages which guarantees that all employees of American are fairly compensated. This runs the against the lecturer's claim which says the American standard of living wages are very high then compare to other countries. He gives an example of Mexico, in which American employees were paid double then the Mexican people. This resulted into large number of Mexican people leaving the company since they were not able to meet up the American code of uniform ethics as company did not pay them well.
Finally, the reading passage states that it is benefical by implanting American policies abroad. This contrast the lecturer's claim that if they implement such policies aboard, It might hurt the sentiments of the local people of that country . He supports his claim by giving example of one course of sexual harassment which is mandatory to do according to the code of ethics, has hurt many people sentiments.
