The provided charts illustrate comparative data on two major languages, French and English, spoken among the people residing in Canada for the years 2000 and 2021.
Overall, English was spoken the most in the country for both the years, including speakers of English only and both languages, while the number of bilingual people grew to become the category constituting the largest proportion of people in the span of 20 years.
Initially, 40% of the total population in Canada spoke English only, while the figures dropped in 2021 by 8%. In the meantime, bilingual people grew in proportion, with figures for the years 2000 and 2021 being 22% and 48% respectively.
Meanwhile, the amount of people speaking French exclusively had a decline, where the proportion form 36% initially dropped to approximately three-fourth of the original figure. Though having a growth of 3%, making up 14% of the net population in 2021, the speakers of languages other than french and english remained the minority throughout the period.
