Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
This graph presents the average carbon dioxide emission per individual in four European countries, namely the United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden and Portugal, over a span of four decades, from 1967 to 2007. Since the beginning, Italy and Portugal’s carbon discharge were increasing slightly while Sweden and United Kingdom’s plunged dramatically.
According to the chart provided, it is evident that the United Kingdom’s emissions reached a plateau of 11 metric tonnes in 1967 until 1977. Subsequently, it experienced a modest decrease to below 10mt in 2007. Conversely, Sweden saw fluctuations in its CO2 release. Peaking at 10mt in 1977, before dropping significantly to around 7mt in 1987 and finally stabilizing just over 4mt in 2007, showcasing an overall reduction.
On the other hand, the two remaining countries experienced an upward trend. Italy, starting at approximately 4 mt in 1967, reaching to almost 8mt in 2007. Portugal began emissions with below 2mt in 1967 and observed a steady increase to around 6mt in 2007.
In conclusion, it is clear that the United Kingdom produced the largest amounts of gas throughout this period, as opposed to Portugal, where a person emitted on average the least amounts of CO2.
