The reading text and lecture are both about the several way to reduce the salinity of the Salton sea lake. While the author feel that by this way we can save the birds population. Lecturer is also agree with the author's point but claim that all these ideas are unrealistic.
First of all, according to the reading text, we should use the Desalination technology to reduce salt concentration. It is also mention that, By this technique we can pumped out the water, then heat this water and pumped back the cooled steam into the lake. On the other hand, lecturer said that, this technique will left over the soil material in water, that is health hazards for the people. Additionally, He mentions that, element like Celenium will cause serious problem in people breathing.
Secondly, reading passage suggests that, another way is to drain in the less salty water from near by the ocean, by constructing a canal or pipeline. He states that, water in nearby beaches is 20 percent less salty than the water in lake. However, professor goes on to says that, Local government does not having a enough resources and funding to pay for building this canal. On top of that, he point out that, nearby shore from the Salton sea lake is 1000 kilometer away,
Lastly, author believe that, we should break down the large area of lake into the small section. As a result of that, only small portion of that lake will getting higher and higher salty. In contrast to the reading passage, tutor notes down that this solution to reduce the salt concentration lower down is not a long lasting. He evidence that, this area is geologically active zone and people can face periodic earthquack in this area. So, well construct wall will fall off in short duration of time. Eventually, the water from all small section will backed in the salinity will become high.
