The line chart compares the percentage of household with electrical appliances and the number of hours of housework per week of these household in the period of 100 years.
It is clear that the number of households uses refrigerator and vacuum cleaner increased significantly leading to the amount of time spent on doing housework in households decreased considerably between 1920 and 2019.
Looking at the percentage of households with electrical equipment, in 1920, we can see that only 30% of families has vacuum cleaner and 40% of households has washing machine, while there is no households using refrigerator in that year. However, over the following 40 years, the number of families that use fridge increased to 90% and figures for washing machine and vacuum cleaner were 70%. By 2019, all households have had at least one refrigerator and one vacuum cleaner in their houses, and only 72% of families owns washing machine.
We can also see that the number of hours of housework per week per household decreased dramatically, from 50% in 1920 to 20% in 1960. This figure fluctuated slightly over the following 40 years and eventually fell to only 10% in 2019.
