The first bar chart presents the number of marriages and divorces in the United States of America from 1970 to 2000, while the second bar chart illustrates the percentage of marital status among adult Americans in 1970 and 2000.
In general, there was a decline in the number of marriages over the 30-year period, while the number of divorces plateaued from 1970 to 2000. The changes in the marital status of adult Americans, excluding married individuals, were not significant.
The number of married individuals remained steady at 2.5 million for two consecutive years and then experienced a decrease of approximately 0.5 million over the following two years. The number of divorces saw an increase of around 0.4 million in 1980, followed by a decrease of approximately 0.3 million, ultimately returning to the 1970 level by 2000. The percentage of the never-married group remained below 20 percent, while the married group, which was at a high of 70 percent in 1970, decreased by nearly 10 percent by 2000. The other two groups showed no significant changes.
In conclusion, the number of marriages and divorces exhibited a declining trend and fluctuation, while the percentage of adult Americans who were married remained significantly higher than the other groups in the United States of America.
