The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in 5 different countries in 2002.
The given table illustrates the rate of national consumer expenditure on three different categories namely Food/Drinks/Tobacco, Clothing/Footwear, and Leisure/Education in Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey in the year 2012.
Overall, as can be seen from the table, it is clear that populations in these five nations had a tendency to spend the most on Food/Drinks/Tobacco, while Leisure/Education was the category being given the least care by these countries’ citizens.
With regard to Food/Drinks/Tobacco, the rate of Turkish residents consuming this item was the highest, at approximately a third, while the figure for Ireland was slightly lower, at about 29%. Meanwhile, Food/Drink/Tobacco accounted for roughly 18,8% of the total spending of the population living in Spain. In addition, 16,36% and 15,77% were the figures for this item in Italy and Sweden respectively.
Looking at Clothing/Footwear and Leisure/Education, the proportion of consumer spending on Clothing/Footwear was the highest in Italy, at 9%, while the figure for Sweden was the lowest, at 5.4%. In terms of Leisure/Education, the percentage of expenditure in this category in Turkey was higher than in other countries, at 4.35%. By contrast, spending on this item in Spain made up the smallest proportion, at 1.98% of the total spending in this country.
