Overall, the amount of produced steel was higher than the actual demand, which witnessed a converse trend in December. It is also noticeable that the number of workers employed in this major was the highest in February, which declined significantly in December.
Regarding the amount of manufactured steel in January of 2010, it began at 4,000 million tons which is double the actual demand. The steel production and demand in April remained almost the same in April. In August,the demand remained unchanged but the product dropped to just over 3,000 million tons. The demand in November declined significantly and then went higher than the demand for steel at the end of the year, with the figure being recorded at 2,000 million tons and about below 1,000 million tons.
In terms of the number of workers employed in this sector in 2010, it was at about 5,000 in the first month, which increased to approximately 5,500 in February. After two months of rising, it dropped significantly to 3,000 in March and remained unchanged until May. From May to August, the number of staff in the steel sector fluctuated between 3,000 and 3,500, then it dipped consistently and finally reached a bottom at 1,000 in the last month of 2010.
