• Task 1: The tables below give information about the consumption and production of potatoes in different world regions in 2006. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The two tables show statistics about the average kilogram of potatoes a person consumed and the amount of potatoes produced in 2006 in 5 areas.
Overall, Europe consumed the highest number of potatoes in 2006, the opposite was true in Africa. Moreover, South and central America is the smallest potato producer and the largest figure belongs to Asia.
Regarding potato consumption, it is notable that a European averagely absorbed 96.1 kilograms in 2006, roughly fourfold larger than the figure for Asia. North America ranked second with 57.9 kilograms per person. With 14 kilograms, the number of Africa was less about 9 kilograms than that of South and Central America.
Looking at the production table, Europe and Asia produced the largest quantity of potatoes in 2006, 126.3 and 131.2 million tonnes, respectively. That created a significant discrepancy with the third largest producer, North America producing 24.7 million tonnes of potato. The numbers of Africa, South and central America were roughly equivalent, around 16 million tonnes.
