The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result form this energy use.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The two pie charts illustrate the proportion of the energy use and its resulting emissions of gases in an average household in Australia.
It is noticeable from the charts that families in this country used most of their energy for heating systems. Only a small proportion of the total energy use was for cooling, lighting and refrigeration. As a result, the gas emissions due to heating was the most significant, compared to a trivial percentage of the other three.
As for energy use, the rate for heating was the highest, recording 72% with 30% for water heating solely, while the figure for refrigeration was considerably lower, showing 7%. 4% of the total household energy use was for lighting, compared to sharply half of it for cooling. Meanwhile, electricity used for other appliances accounted for 15% of the total usage.
In terms of gas emissions, the proportion for heating was still the highest one in the chart, recording 47% collectively though heating’s statistics (water heating not included) was approximately one third of its above pattern. Gas emitted from refrigeration appliances doubled its statistics for energy use, recording 14% whereas the rates for cooling and lighting made up 3% and 8% respectively.
