The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries.
The given line graph represent global utilization of water since 1900 to 2000, over a period of 100 years. While the table depicts information about the consumption of water in Brazil and Congo in the year 2000.
Global water usage remained below 1,000km2 for all three sectors i-e: Agriculture, Industrial, and Domestic, since 1900 to 1950. Agriculture was the leading sector among the three and remained highest even in the year 2000. The graph remained almost constant for first 50 years with agriculture on the top followed by industrial and domestic use. The same position was maintained in the second half of the century. The usage of water jumped from 1,000 for farming, 20 for industries and 10km2 for the domestic purpose to 3,000, 800 and 300km2 respectively.
The table represents water utilization for Brazil and Congo in the year 2000. Brazil with a population of 176 million and irrigated land of 26,500 km2, had per head water consumption of 359 m3. In contrast to this, Congo had 5.2 million people and 100 km2 irrigation area had per person water utilization of only 8 m3.
To sum up, the utilization of water has been increased over the period of time. However, per head consumption is mostly dependent on total population and irrigated area.
