Both author and lecturer offer two opposing views on the benefits of the computerized cars. While the reading part lists three advantages of the usage of these cars, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call into the question for the information in the text.
First of all, the article posits that the smart cars will prevent many accidents and save the lives. However, the instructor casts doubt on the accuracy of this claim. She asserts that the crash is unavoidable in a case which the system of the smart cars fails. Moreover, since these cars will be packed together in the traffic, the damage caused by the accident will be bigger than the occasional car accidents. Therefore, there is no obvious evidence the damages caused by the smart cars accident will be fewer than the ordinary car accidents and they will save the lives.
Next, meanwhile, the passage mentions to the fewer traffic problems and community hours as the beneficial aspect of these cars, the lecturer refutes this claim. She states that for the sake of the comfort caused by the smart cars, the quantity of the cars in the routes will be enhanced because the driving will seem easier than the previous driving condition. In this situation, the faster traffic by the large cars in the streets will be abortive. As a result, the advantage of the fast speed will be overshadowed.
Finally, the reading part assumes that the cost required for the repair will decline in the smart cars. On the other hand, the professor challenges the validity of this surmise. Based on her assertion, the connection with the global position of the smart cars is expensive. In addition, these cars demand the particular equipment such as the sensor to be effective, and these tools are costly too. Besides, the repair of these cars is so far expensive than the occasional cars. Thus, the expense of these cars offsets the expected cost-effectiveness.
