Both the reading and speaking try to discuss about the evidence (structures) which was found about bees' nests. Although the reading states that these fossils were not created by bees, the lecturer disagrees with them all and brings three reasons to refute the ideas mentioned by reading.
First of all, the reading asserts that the actual bees did not exist 200 million years ago and the earliest body preserved of them is related to 100 million years ago. On the contrary, the professor provides the reason to refute this idea due to the fact that probably, 200 million years ago, there was not any preserving technique which bees were able to utilize. Most of insects employed some sticky resins to be preserved. Therefore, lacking the fossils in that era is not the reason of not existence of bees.
Furthermore, the author presents another theory that in that time, 200 million years ago, there were not any flowers which bees could feed. So, they were not able to be in that time. Conversely, the lecturer rejects this idea due to this concept that some bees could be evolve in that time and feed on none flowery plants such as pine trees. Consequently, they could be survived without flowers.
Finally, the passage argues that the modern bees have the caps as a chamber in their nests, but the structures which were found have not this details. On the other hand, the speaker dismisses this reason and believe that it is highly erroneous due to the fact that there were some chemical evidence which can help to prove this concept that this cap might be distracted by chemical reaction. Besides, in the found structure, there were some evidence about water proof materials which exist in modern bees' nests too. Therefore, this structures belong to the bees at 200 million years ago.
