TPO27-TPO 27 integrated writing Little ice age
In this set of material, the reading passage claims that a little ice age occurred from 1350 until 1990, and there were harsh winters with advent of large glaciers and then the reading passage brings up three reasons for creating this little ice age, however the lecture finds all these reasons obsolete and provides some evidence to advocate that these ideas are not convincing, in fact the information the professor provides contradicts the fact outlined in the reading passage.
First, the reading passage states a disruptive of Gulf Stream caused to develop such an ice age. Before this ice age, the weather was warm strangely and due to melting glaciers, a huge massive freshwater entered to Gulf stream that it could have affected on Earth's climate, in contrast the lecture argues that such a disruptive could have just affected on America, however this ice age occurred in other hemisphere like New Zealand or the parts of Africa.
Second, the author of reading declares that since some volcanic eruption took place in those years, it might have occurred a large volcanic eruption, and then a dark clouds of dust may have distributed in these regions and it would have blocked sunlight from reaching to Earth’s surface, conversely the professor believes that if there was such a huge eruption, it must have been reported by people, however since there is not a strong report about this eruption, consequently it is not a potent reason for this ice age.
Third, the reading contends that because of being lower of growing human population, human activities had decreased and there was not any deforestation, so all of Carbon dioxide was being attracted by trees and as we all know, the weather is cooler without greenhouse gases, on the contrast the professor says that there was not enough time for this reason, because human population increased after a very short time and deforestation started again, so this reason is not as strong as other mentioned reasons.
