Government should focus on solving the problems of today rather than trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future.
I am convinced by the author's view that the government should focus on solving the problems of today rather than trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future. The problems faced by the government in the present, in my view, assume greater importance than the problems that may crop up in the future.
Firstly, the diversion of government's attention to the present hindrances will not only help in tackling the issue but also cut suffering of its people. There are some problems which need to be dealt immediately with or else it may grow beyond control. For instance, when issues of corruptions have cropped up, it is necessary to take immediate actions to nip the bud else it may cause irreparable damage to the government's working and reputation.
Also, obstacles which we are expected to rise in the future may not appear at all. By solving today's problem today itself, we are opting for a tomorrow which has one problem less. Also, finding solutions to the present problem may also drop the possibility of a related problem in the future. For example, if today measures are taken to control the rapid consumption of conventional sources of energy, it will prevent today's loss and funding of future research for finding solution to the same problem.
Because of the government focusing on the problems of the present and the future simultaneously, the issues of the present which may need more attention may be neglected and the solution may be prolonged. The solution of the current problems requiring more funds may not get significant attention, adding to the grievances. It can also create disparity between the departments and can meddle with the harmony of the government working system.
However, we cannot forget that prevention is better than cure. For instance, if it is realized that a city needs better drainage just a few months before the rains, it would be unwise on the government's part to await the rains, watch the city flood and then work on the solution.
Thus, the government should acknowledge the gravity of the problems and appropriately deal with it, giving priority to the current problems. Because the today's problems are in existence, while the problems of the future are uncertain.
