There are different views about wether the birds can understand there is a glass in front of them or not. The passage suggests different reasons that can be used to prevent birds from collding to tall building glasses. On the other side, professor rejects the claims made by the passage and has his own reasons.
There is a kind of glass which reflects light from one side and passes it through the other one. One-Way glass is more like a mirror to birds. While the passage tries to suggest that it would be an effective way for distracting birds and preventing them from being harmed, the professor's clear reasons reject this idea as most birds can not distinguish between a glass and open air. So, One-Way glass is not a promissing solution.
Another way suggested by the passge is to use colorful design and patterns on glass so that people are able to get light from sun and see through the non-covered areas and birds see them as a barrier and would not try to pass them through any more. However this seems to be an effective way, the professor says that there are still holes in the glass which may motivate the birds to pass through the holes. So this also can not be considered as an effective way.
The last and most scientific solution that the passage suggests is to think of a way of preventing the birds from colliding to the galsses by sending a distacting signal. A signal come from a magnetic field can cause a change to the direction which birds fly. Similar to the other reasons, it is rejected by professor. Unlike the passge professor doesn't agree with this idea because the magnetic field can not affect birds direction in short travels. They use that ability only in long travels for example while imigrating from one place to another. So this is not a working solution.
