Sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas (1999 & 2004)
The following two separate tables illustrate the amounts of sales for Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in the years 1999 and 2004. With a quick glance it is obvious that over this time frame a significant growth in their proportion of sales for both items has occurred.
By 1999, Switzerland sales about 15 millions of euros in bananas sector which shows the highest sales among other countries, whereas the majority proportion of sales in coffee sector (1.8 million of euros) goes to Denmark in the same year.
UK has sold about 47 million euros banana’s labels and also this country has the highest level of the sale of coffee labels in 2004 (about 20 millions). Denmark stands at the bottom of sale percentage in banana chart (approximately 0.9 million of euros,) while in coffee sector, Sweden shows the least amount of sales. However, in 1999, Sweden again has sold the least percentage of coffee labels and Belgium has had the lowest amounts of bananas sales (0.8 and 0.6 million euros, respectively).
All in all, both tables show that in coffee sector UK has had a remarkable increase across the same five-year period (approximately 18.5 million euros,) while on the other hand Switzerland has had a rewarding sales of Fairtrade in bananas (around 32 million of euros.)
