The bar chart compares the rates of unemployed women in four countries of the UK namely England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in the years 2013 and 2014.
It is clear that there were fewer women who did not hold a job in 2014 than in the previous year, except for those in Scotland. The unemployment rates of English women and Scottish women were considerably higher than those of women in Wales and Northern Ireland.
In 2013, the percentage of women without work in England was highest, with 6.8 %, compared to only 6.1 % of women who were out of work in Scotland. The level of unemployed women in Northern Ireland was higher than the figure for those in Wales, at 5.6% and 5.4 % respectively.
2014 saw a steady rise in the female unemployment rate in Scotland, reaching a peak at 6.7 %, followed by 6.1 % in 2013. While the rates of jobless women in England and in Wales dropped slightly by 3% to 6.5% and by 0.4 % to 5.0 % respectively, the figure for those in Northern Ireland fell significantly by 1% to 4.6 %.
