The figure illustrates how much fish, lamb, beef and chicken was consumed by an European country during the period of 1979 to 2004.
As can be seen, at the beginning of the period, beef was by far the most popular type of meat, starting at 220 grams per person per week. After which were lamb, chicken and fish at 150, 140 and 60, respectively.
During this period, although facing a soar in a small duration from 1981 to 1982, beef’s consumption experienced a downward trend just like that of lamb, each of which reaching 100 and 70 grams by the year 2004. The consumption of fish, however, remained almost steady at 50 grams.
Despite other types of meat, the amount of chicken consumed was significantly increased to 250 grams by the end of the period, taking over lamb and beef in 1980 and 1988, respectively.
Overall, it seems that chicken has taken the place of beef in this period and became the most used type of meet in this European country by 2004.
