primacy effect is a psychological effect which means our opinions are likely to be based on the first impressions of a person or situation. the professor illustrated this effect by taking himself as an example. before the professor started teaching, he worked as a researcher assistant. anyway, he did a great job on the first week and that impression stayed in his boss's mind. so even though he made some minor mistakes on the following week, his boss still concluded that he is outstanding. on the other hand, one of his colleagues did not do well on the first week. therefore, his boss considers his colleague unreliable even though his colleague is doing great on the following week.
