In the lecture, the professor explains the disadvantages of each of the three solutions to save the declining frog populations around the globe.
To begin with, the passage claims that banning farmers near vulnerable frog habitats from using pesticides can dramatically reduce the harm caused by them. Nonetheless, the speaker refutes this and argues that this policy is not fair for some certain farmers, because it diminishes the product of crops and makes those farmers less competitive to their counterparts.
Next, contrary to the second method in the reading passage that large-scale deployment of the new antifungal treatment can protect frogs from getting infected by the fatal pathogens, the lecturer points out that the frogs have to be treated individually, which makes the goal impractical to be achieved. What is more, the next generations of frogs are not immune to the fungus, so the operation must be carried out repeatedly.
Finally, the instructor rules out the possibility of restricting water use to preserve the habitats of frogs. It is the effect of global warming but not the over-consumption of water, as asserted by the professor, that causes damages to water system and wetlands, endangering the frog species. Hence, controlling water use would contribute little to the restoration of frog populations.
