4 days working instead of 5 day
In the reading, the author claims that four-day working day, with less payment, is more efficient rather than five days working day which is the way currently exist by pointing out 3 reasons of support. However, finding all the ideas implausible and questionable, the lecturer casts doubt on what is presented in the text and demonstrate some evidences to the contrary.
At first, the author argues that four days working leads to generating more income due to a reduction in both payroll expenditures and costly human errors. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that the new workforce necessitates further expenses including training and medical insurance. Indeed, the medical cost has nothing to do with the length of time that personnel works which means all the expenses will not cut off by the 80%. Moreover, the more employees work, the more office space and equipment such as computers need. Undoubtedly, all of these items deteriorate the financial status of the companies owing to a fall in profits.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that on the country scale, a drop in unemployment rates is accounted as a constructive consequence of this approach. On the other hand, the lecturer, disputes this point by clarifying the fact that as he said before, the companies are reluctant to not have extra workers. Consequently, having worked less time, the current staffs are required to work overtime since the employers presume they should do the same duties which had been assign in five days working. Therefore, not only does not this decision decrease the unemployment rate, but also it makes the current employees much less contentment of their job.
Finally, the author asserts enhance the quality of their personal life as they have more time to allocate their favorable activities. The lecturer, though, dismisses it by pointing out that the stability in jobs gradually has been adversely affected by raising the possibility of firing out. Beside this issue that the employees who work 4 days instead of 5 days pass up their chance for promotions because employers opt to offer this opportunity to those who work more.
