Although, it fell slightly by 10 to 20 thousand between 1950 and 1970, the number of prisoners in the United Stated peaked at 140 thousand in 1980. Furthermore, the Great Britain which started with only 30 thousand showed an increasing trend until it reached roughly 85 thousand in the last year. In addition, New Zealand has 100 thousand prisoners in 1930, however, it decreased to almost half between 1940 and 1950 but it regained its momentum and rose to almost 90 thousand in 1980.
