In the reading passage, the author claims that "let it burn" policy, which allows forest fires continue burning without human interfering to extinguish it, render the environment damaged() by pointing out three reasons of support. However, finding all the ideas implausible and questionable, the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text and states that "let it burn" rule is not only destructive, but it also is constructive many times which demonstrated that indeed it is a good regulation.
At first, the author argues that diminishing the vegetation is one of the primitive adverse ramification of this policy. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that scorching has created the suitable environment for other plants to colonize in that place. Actually, diversification in plants occurs after each fire since other species take this opportunity to grow. For instance, having found more unshaded space, the small plants can nurture well. In addition, take the Yellowstone fire as an example. There were a lot of seeds that require heat to germinate. Admittedly, if this fire had not happened, the seeds would not have bred.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that wildlife undergone a severe decline in various animal species. On the other hand, the professor disputes this point by clarifying that as of inhabiting the small plants, a lot of small animals such as rabbits and hairs are tempting to live there. Subsequently, their predators will attract to the new environment as well. As a matter of fact, they produce a new life cycle and food chain which is undoubtedly far stronger than it was before the fire.
Finally, the author asserts that the presence of fire in such location can end up with a substantial drop in the number of visitors. The professor, thought, dismisses this idea by subscribing to the point that this will happen if the fire repeats frequently, but the Yellowstone fire has not happened after 1988. Besides, such economy disaster requires that fire becomes companion to other factors such as the considerable lack of rain and severe winds. Thus, coming back again after that fire regularly, people promote the tourism industry in that region.
