The graph illustrates the changes that took place in three different forms of crime in Newport City centre from 2003-2012.
There was approximately 3400 recorded burglary in 2003. In 2004 it peaked to 3,800 however it showed a gradual decline from 2005 to 2008. A slight increase of 1, 400 in 2009 and followed by unsteady trend from 2010 to 2012.
The unsteady trend was evident in car theft. There were 2,800 recorded car theft in 2003 moreover it almost stayed the same in 2004 and 2005. In 2006 it dropped to 2,100 and followed by a rise and fall in numbers from 2007 to 2012.
On the other hand, robbery showed a more stable yet unsteady trend. There were approximately 700 recorded robbery in 2003, in addition to that an increase to 800 in 2004 and 900 in 2005 which was the highest recorded. It was followed by a continous decline from 2006 to 2008. The unsteady trend continued from 2009 to 2012.
In conclusion, burglary was the most prevalent crime in Newport city centre.
