The table shows the amount of coal used by different by different sectors in the UK from 1975 to 2000.
Overall, it is obvious that the coal consumption experienced a significant decline for all sectors from 1975 to 2000 with an exception for power stations in first given period.
Having started at 77.2 million tones in 1975, the coal used for Power stations accounted for two-thirds of the total Coal consumption. However, this figure had an upward trend to 89.6 million tones in 1980, before witnessing a gradual decrease to 47.1 millions tones in 2000. In addition, it was still the leading sector for using coal in all four categories in 2000.
As can be seen from the table, Domestic and Industry in the UK contributed to nearly a quarter of the total quantity in 1975 with over 39 million tones respectively and it was less than for Services, at only 4.2 million tones. Afterwards, the coal consumption of this three sectors fell remarkably until the year 2000, although there was no change throughout five years from 1990 to 1995 for Domestic (2.7 millions tones) and next 5 years for Services (0.6 million tones)
