In this set of materials, the lecture and passage both are discussing about migration hypothesis of dinosaurs.
The lecturer is not convinced that the dinosaurs migrated to south to save themselves from cold winters by providing three reasons for his support. On the other hand, the passage considers that dinosaurs migrated during winter.
First of all, the article states that the dinosaurs migrated to the south slope to get food because, during harsh winters plants which were the food source for them was not available in the north slope of Alaska. Whereas, the lecture states that they did not migrated to south slope to find the food. Several years ago, the temperature in the north slope was quite warmer than present. The sun used to be there for 24 hours a day this provided with plenty of plants for the dinosaurs. Even in winters the dead plants were a good source of nutrition for them. Thus they did not migrated for food. Hence the hypothesis is false.
Furthermore, according to the reading the skeletal findings of dinosaurs at single place suggest that the dinosaurs used to live in herds, that is why they support migratory hypothesis as it is one of it's phenomenon. On the contrary, the lecturer mentions that even they used to live in herds it is not necessary for them to migrate because there are certain modern day animals such as elk who live in forests in west America and do not migrate. So, as the dinosaurs live in herds they should cannot be justified.
Finally, passage claims that the dinosaurs where physically capable of traveling long distances owing to their size and speed which supports the migratory theory. The speaker however, argues that even though they were huge and fast there young ones were not capable enough to travel such long distances. The adults could not left the youth dinosaurs behind as they cannot survive on their own. So this cannot prove that they migrated.
