The lecture and the reading both discuss the harm of glass on birds. The reading states that several solutions from business companies are available to prevent injures of birds, and enumerates three ways to solve the problem. The lecture refutes this point by saying that non of the solutions provided in the reading could prevent the birds from getting injured.
first of all ,The reading argues that if people could replace the regular glass with the one way glass that is transparent from one direction, which would prevent the birds from getting injured. however, The lecture opposes this point by saying that one way glass is not suitable. According to the professor one way glass will reflect like a mirror, birds from outside only will see the glass. Furthermore, birds do not understand the meaning of the reflection. For example when birds see the reflection of trees or the sky on the glass they assume it is real and they start to flow into them.
In addition, the reading states that painting colorful design with small opening to allow light pass through, is another solution to prevent birds from getting injured. But, the lecture argues that using a colorful glass is not a good solution. the professor explains that colorful glass with small opening is dangerous to the birds, as the birds will perceived that the opening are holes and the birds will fly through them. the other solution is to makes the holes too small but the room will be very dark from inside.
Lastly, the reading makes an argument that one way to guide birds away form the building is to use artificial magnetic field. However, the lecture refutes this point by stating that. Magnetic field guides the bird only when they are traveling long distance. according to the professor, magnetic field not used for short distance, birds only use their eye and the bighting of light when they are traveling short distances
