In the passage, the coin found at a Native American archaeological site in Maine is not a genuine historical evidence for three reasons. On the contrary, the speaker thinks it is not a fake and all these reasons are not convincing.
To begin with, according to the author, the distance is too long to travel for Norse who lived in one thousand years ago. But the speaker points out that it is reasonable to travel between the site and the Norse settlements for people have found many other objects. The natives could travel to the Norse settlements and then brought the silver coin back to Maine.
Then, without any other coins have been found, the author asserts that Norse did not bring any coins. This is also opposed by the speaker. She then argues that they pack up all the valuable possession including silver coins and came back to European because they don't live in the site as a settlement. So this reason is not necessary to approve it is fake.
Moreover, the speaker disagrees with the reason that silver coins are useless for native North Americans. He then tells us though they may not use silver coins as we use today, these coins are appealing to them for they are beautiful. So Norse could trade with them who may use them as jewelry.
