according to the most recent research on parenting, caretakers tend to use three strategies for disciplining children. Power, withholding of affection and management

The article states that parenting can be divided in three types; With Power, Affection and Management. However professor in the lecture elaborates the points in article more deeply and gives reasons stengthning his point.

First, the article states that majority of parents use the power in the form of severe punishment like spanking to punish their children. The professor oposses this by taking the data from study of cooper smith that children who are controlled with power have low self esteem and also adds that, there should be reinforcement of good habit before the punishment for bad habits.

Second, the article states two types affection and management; this comes up with the idea of treating children with affection and imposing the set of rules and praising respectively. The professor here states that the children who are treated with this two types have hign self esteem. According to professor in management the children should be admired when they do some good task or work and due to which this type of children are self controlled and more self disiplined. The professor also points that discipline is to teach not harm. And backing it with the cycological evidence, the professor concludes that the children should not be treated with power and the use of management technique is the best option.
