The topic is about if pterosaurs are capable of powered flight. The reading passage introduces three arguments that are against powered flight. However, the lecturer rejects each of the arguments and states that pterosaurs may be capable of powered flight.
First, the reading passage argues that pterosaurs were probably cold-blooded and they were not able to generate enough energy to fly. The lecturer suggests that new fossil discover indicated that pterosaurs had dense, hair-like covering that was like fur, which is typical of warm-blooded animals. Fur keep warm-blooded animals warm when they are in a cold environment. If pterosaurs were more like that of warm-blooded animals, their metabolism is faster, and they were able to generate enough energy to supply flight. This is the first obvious divergence where the lecturer disagrees with the reading passage.
The second argument presented in the reading passage is that pterosaurs were too heavy to stay aloft because they could flap their wings fast enough. On the contrary, the lecturer says that pterosaurs had the structures like the hallow bone, which made them unusually light for their size. Their weight is probably low enough to flap the wings fast to stay afloat. This is the second point where the lecturer challenges the reading passage.
The last evidence the reading passage uses to argue is that the back legs of pterosaurs are too small and weak to support them to run fast enough or jump high enough to launch themselves into the air. The lecturer reasons that birds use two legs to walk on the ground. This is different from pterosaurs. Pterosaurs used all four legs to walk, which cause no trouble for them to run fast or jump high, even the largest one. This is the last point which the lecturer uses to clarify that pterosaurs may probably be able to fly.
