According to the reading material every year, million of birds injure when they try to fly through glass windows however there are several solutions to prevent injuries to birds. However, in the listening, the professor refutes what says in the reading passage by providing three outstanding reasons.
Firstly, in the reading passage, it is said that one solution is to replace the regular glass with one-way glass that is transparent only one direction. So, birds cannot see through a window and will not try to fly through them. In contrast, the professor in the listening rejects this solution. He states that one-way windows has a problem.this kind of window reflex just like a mirror. In addition, birds do not understand mirror and when they see the pictures of the sun or trees in the window they try to fly through it.
Secondly, the reading passage claims that second solution is to paint colorful lines or other designs on clear window glass. But, the professor believes it is not functional. Birds want to fly through the glass if they see some lines and designs. Also, this kind of glass would prevent sunlight to the room and room becomes very dark for people.
Finally, the reading passage believes that creating an artificial magnetic field to guide birds away form buildings would be very practical because birds can sense Earth's magnetic fields during their flying. On the other hand, the listening disagrees with this solution. He states that birds use their natural ability to sense Earth's magnetic fields when they travel for long distances to figure out which direction is better. When they fly for short distances between cities they utilize their eyes and senses to navigate. So, this solution would be ineffective.
