The reading and lecture are both about the possibility to maintain human presence on Venus planet. The author of the reading believes that, it is impossible to maintain human presence on the Venus, however, the lecturer casts doubt on the claim which is made by the author and She think that with few strategy, it is possible to survive on Venus.
First of all, the author points out that atmospheric pressure at Venus is higher in compare to the earth’s pressure, which can crush human body within hour of landing on the planet. Even spacecrafts are not resistant to the pressure. However, this point is challenged by the lecturer, she says that the atmospheric pressure at 50 km above of the Venus surface is equal to the earth’s atmospheric pressure. She also suggests that the space station at 50 km above on the surface can serve a permanent station of the human.
Secondly, the author contends that the Venus atmosphere cantinas carbon dioxide, nitrogen and sulphuric acid, however oxygen and water vapor are merely present, which is essential for the survival. However, the lecturer rebut the claim made by the author, she suggests that the with the help of chemical reaction this atmospheric carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid can be converted into oxygen and water. She also mentions that the gases are readily available in Venus atmosphere.
Finally, the author claims that the only 40% sunlight reaches to the surface of the Venus, however large amount of the 40% light is blocked by the dense layer of carbon dioxide. Further reading also point out that it affect the solar energy as well as electrical energy. The lecturer says that, 50 Km above the Venus surface, there is less reflection of sunlight, at this level human can utilize maximum level of sunlight. She further stated that it can maximize the solar energy power as well as electrical energy.
In the last, the author made some point to explain that the permanent human presence is not possible at the surface of the Venus planet , however, the lecturer rebut s the author’s arguments and suggests that, it is possible to maintain the permanent presence of the human.
