The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade*-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries
The tables provide information regarding the sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in five European countries in 1999 and 2004. Overall, it can be clearly seen that all the sales for coffee increased, whereas it dropped in some countries throughout five years.
With regards to coffee sales, in 1999 Switzerland had the highest sale amount which represented 3 million of euros and in 2004 it witnessed a double increase, similarly, it was followed by Denmark with 1.8 million with a rise to 2 million in 2004. Meanwhile, UK, Belgium and Sweden extended for 1.5, 1 and 0.8 million respectively. Moreover, figures for UK surged to 20 million and Belgium and Sweden showed a little growth to 1.7 and 1 million of euros relatively in 2004.
Turning to the sales of bananas, there was remarkable difference between the sales in UK compared with others. Furthermore, in UK it increased threefold from 15 million after five years gap to 47 million; however, Belgium almost halved from 1.8 to 1 million at the same time as Sweden saw reduction from 2 to 0.9 million respectively. In addition, there was a little difference between Denmark and Switzerland and both of them soared in 2004, reaching 5.5 and 4 million starting from 1 and 0.6 million of euros relatively.
