The following is a recommendation from the Board of Directors of Monarch Books.

"We recommend that Monarch Books open a café in its store. Monarch, having been in business at the same location for more than twenty years, has a large customer base because it is known for its wide selection of books on all subjects. Clearly, opening the café would attract more customers. Space could be made for the café by discontinuing the children's book section, which will probably become less popular given that the most recent national census indicated a significant decline in the percentage of the population under age ten. Opening a café will allow Monarch to attract more customers and better compete with Regal Books, which recently opened its own café."

Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation is likely to have the predicted result. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation.

The above argument by the Board of Directors Monarch is flawed because of the numerous reasons. Primarily the argument have many unwarranted assumptions because both the book store is not the same and the assumptions are obscure on their locations. The success of the regel book store cant determine the success of the monarch book store.

The argument fails to prove any justification that twenty years in the same location doesn't mean the main factor for their success. What if there is only few books store in their location. May be lifestyle near the people in the regel book store be sophisticated and the monarch is obsolete. The economic status of the region also plays a vital role in the success.

The argument also states the the population of the young children below age 10 is decreased last year by the most recent national census, but population can waver from year to year. Replacing the children's section to cafe may not be hit because some erudite persons may consider the cafe is not important than the children section. And it is difficult to predict the success because the monarch is successful for twenty years by their wide variety of selection of books.By neglecting the children's section may also results in loosing customers.

Regel book store may succeed based of their location and unique techniques what if monarch as it is functioning since 20 years where their techniques are obsolete.May be there will be few cafes in the regel store location so their cafeteria become a instant hit. What happens if the monarch have many cafes nearby, it may lead to failure.

Thus from the argument we cant determine the success of the monarch by simply over-viewing the regel books success. If the above assumptions are viewed proper and taken into account the monarch books store may succeed in opening the cafe.

You need to read the topic carefully. Then analyze the structure of the statement and argue accordingly. Don't refer something new.

condition 1:
Monarch, having been in business at the same location for more than twenty years, has a large customer base because it is known for its wide selection of books on all subjects. Clearly, opening the café would attract more customers.

condition 2:
Space could be made for the café by discontinuing the children's book section, which will probably become less popular given that the most recent national census indicated a significant decline in the percentage of the population under age ten.

conclusion:
Opening a café will allow Monarch to attract more customers and better compete with Regal Books, which recently opened its own café.

then here goes the argument:

argument 1:
the author makes an unlikely assumption that since the book shop has been doing so well; the cafe will also do equally well and will prove to be profitable.

argument 2:
1. A national census cannot alone account for the reduction in number of children in that particular location.
2.This will not reduce the number of purchases of children books.

argument 3:
It works for A, it doesn't mean it will work for B. more examples:

It works for time A (10 years ago), but it doesn't mean it works for time B (nowadays).

It works for location A (a city, community, nation), but it doesn't mean it works for location B (another city, community, nation).

It works for people A (a manager), but it doesn't mean it works for people B (a worker).

It works for event A (one event, project... ), but it doesn't mean it works for event B (another event, project...).
