Today, the corporate world is booming with many consultancy agencies that offer solutions for the problems that companies face and consequently increase their efficiency. The author, in reference to this trend asserts that companies should welcome suggestions from their own employees and implement them rather than spending money to hire professional consultants. Though the author's argument may have merit, it would be a bold statement to totally outlash the need for professional consultants.

Companies today hire consultants for various purposes like recruitment and training of new employees, legal advise, human resource management and motivating the employees. One cannot deny that the employees of a company have a good understanding of the internal matters about the operation of the company. Being a part of the system might give them the exposure necessary to come up with simple but effective solutions that could benefit the largely company. Consider for example an employee of a small call centre, he might have noticed that he and his fellow employees become tired because of the continuous long hours of work and suggest that having small breaks between working hours would increase their productivity. While, an external consultant could not have thought of this unless he takes time to observe and understand the daily routine of the employees and later puts himself in this position to come up with a solution.

Nevertheless, we have to agree that professional consultancies have been running successful businesses only because they have been pivotal in improving the effciency of the operation of many companies. Their professional knowledge could be crucial in solving problems that most companies face.

In conclusion, though the employees of an organisation understand the intricacies of the working and the problems they face everyday, one cannot entirely dismiss the need for professional consultants. Their experience and knowledge should be used to complement the suggestions given by the employees to increase their efficiency.
