Claim The best way to understand the character of a society is to examine the character of the men and women that the society chooses as its heroes or its role models Reason Heroes and role models reveal a society s highest ideals

Today, societies have deviated from one another markedly. Each society or country has its own unique method of introducing itself to the world. There are different opinions on the best approach societies can maintain to make themselves reputable globally. Some people hold the idea that knowing a country’s heroes or role models is the best way to become acquainted with that country and its people's characteristics. However, others, with whom I comply, believe there are better ways to become familiar with the people's features of a country or society than knowing famous people of that country. There are so many more significant factors based on which the world can understand the character of a specific country or society and its people. In what follows, I will delineate my viewpoint on the ground of two persuasive reasons.

Without a doubt, the most consequential point corroborating my stance on this subject is that different people have various characteristics, even those who share the same culture and hometown. Even if the role models or the heroes that a country introduces to the world are the best ones locally and globally, they are still human and prone to making mistakes or talking and misbehaving. Suppose other societies judge the characters of a certain society's people based on its role model, presuming that all the people of that society share the same characteristics, which is a very unrealistic assumption. In that case, those societies attain nothing but a bunch of useless and misleading information about the personalities of that society's people. For example, over half of the world knows Gerard Pique, who is a very famous football player from Spain. Last year, he cheated on his wife and abandoned her and his children to start a new relationship with a new girl. Does that mean that all Spanish men are cheaters? Of course not. Therefore, it is neither fair nor rational to use heroes, celebrities, or role models' characteristics in order to become familiar with their countrymen's features or the dominant and conventional etiquette of that country.

Although the previous reason is the first one crossing the mind at first glance, another remarkable point deserving some words here is that there are some more reliable factors based on which people can evaluate a society or become familiar with the characteristics of its people. For instance, the level of prosperity of that society's people or the country's economic situation is a more promising factor in becoming familiar with the character of a country. Take Germany as an example. World knows Germany because of its high-level economy and looks at German people as industrious human-being sharing a common feature which is excellent perseverance. As it is well known, Adolf Hitler and Albert Einstein are both from Germany. If people intended to judge German people and German society based on these people, they would conclude that German people are genius or German leaders are dictators. Thus, this example illustrates that some factors other than heroes or role models play a prominent role in knowing the features of a specified society and its people.

To make the long story short, and reflecting upon the aforementioned grounds, one soon realizes that examining the character of countries' role models is not the best way to understand the character of their society and people.
