Issue topic:
"Some people believe it is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withold information from the public. Others believe that the public has a right to be fully informed."

The author illustrates in his statement two contradictory beliefs- one, that it is necessary and sometimes even desireable for politicians to withhold infoemation from the public and two, that the public has a right to be fully informed. I concede with the former belief that yes, it it necessary and sometimes even desirable for political leaders to withhold information from the public.

First of all, we must understand that we are dealing with politics and political leaders here, hence it includes a certain amount of obscurity intrinsically in their jobs. A political leader is the representative of a large party. He can be the mayor or even the president; meaning to say, political leaders are representatives of myriad backgrounds. Hence, according to the description of thier jobs, it is necessary for them to withhold information from the public. A president will disclose his thoughts and ideas to his council, they will discuss them and then even discard them. Involving the public in such a situation does not make sense.

Moreover, a lot of information that a political leader might know could be closely related to security issues. The public cannot demand a right to know such kind of covert affairs. A president declaring their army tactics to the public- imagine what dire consequences that would bring to a country. Hence, here it is necessary for the political leader to withold information.

Also, the public ranges from a layman to a doctor to a lawyer to another politician. This encompases wide range of people who may, according to their discretion, misconstrue the information provided to them. In the scenario of discussing taxes for different professions it is desirable that unless the final draft is ready, none of the discussions are known to the public. It is best to withold the unwanted information to the public.

According to me, disclosing a lot of information, to the extent that the public is fully informed of all the details that a political leader knows would create a havoc. It would create a media circus, who will dissect every word the political leader will say. This will in turn lead to a lot of unwanted opinions and confusion. A trivial press release like, "Today the political leader XYZ discussed how to beautify your city. He focused solely on adding fountains to the parks.", would put the town in a frenzy. The public would not understand that this not the conclusion, its just a part of the the plan, and the public would unwarrentedly slander the political leader.

In sum, I belive that it is often necessary, even desirable, for a poilitical leader to withold information from the public. Of course highly important situations need to be disclosed but the public needed be fully informed of every word that the political leader utters.
