A nation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college.
Education is one the most important rights of an individual. A country's literacy rate is one the major criteria for the country's assessment on an international level. The country's economy is also affected by the quality of education imparted on its individuals. Considering the importance of education for the entire nation, it seems quite suitable that every individual must be imparted with equal education.
The primary benefit of such a move will be that it will generate a sense of equality and thus will raise the moral of all individuals. No individual after the completion of schools will have the feeling of being less educated and this feeling will serve as a big boost to his confidence. Who knows, may be it will reduce the problem of low self-esteem to a great extent!
Secondly, after school education is completed, a nation-wide centralized exam can be conducted which will provide grounds for easier assessment of each individual. The need for many colleges to conduct autonomous exams will thus be reduced. Currently, each state conducts their individual exams which make it difficult for conversion of marks when students decide to take admissions outside their native states. This ambiguity in conversion of marks will not be there if a nation-wide centralized exam is conducted.
Having said that, implementing the same curriculum nation-wide might not be acceptable to all the schools. Some schools might feel that they need their students to be more competitive and hence might feel like imparting a better education than the national curriculum provides. But on the brighter side, the education system of schools which is not upto the mark will be raised. Thus, such a move will pull up the children from less efficient education curriculum but will also pull down children from the more efficient education curriculum.
In conclusion, the move to implement the same national curriculum will prove to be beneficial. But at the same time, it should be ensured that this education curriculum is the best. Efforts should be made to design a curriculum which raises the overall intellectual bar of the nation.
