Some people believe that college students should consider only their own talents and interests when choosing a field of study. Others believe that college students should base their choice of a field of study on the availability of jobs in that field.
Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented.
Choosing a proper field of study is of utmost importance in college because this is where our career and goal in life is set. One should always choose a field in which they are interested in since the choice made is permanent and if it is a wrong one ,it may ruin one's life. Although choosing a field of study where one is talented is important, if that field happens to be a dying one then the job market is quite low thus affecting the student, but if the student chooses his or her desired field then they are likely to be happier while studying as well as upon getting a job in that relative field.
First of all if they choose a field of study which has better job prospects but they lack the talent for it, it is highly plausible that they may perform bad resulting in lower grades and since in this fast paced world people with higher grades are preferred, consequently they would have lower job availability.
Furthermore, since the students are choosing a field of study where they are talented, they are sure to have a knack for the subject and thus must be eager to learn, resulting in better scores in their fields.
Secondly if students pursue the field in which they are talented upon getting a job in the said field they are more likely to be happy since they get to do what they love and desire.
However if a student pursues a course which is a dying field he or she may not get a proper job in that field resulting in chronic depression.
On the other hand, since students generally opt for jobs after completing college, if they pursue a field of study which has a greater job availability, they have a higher chance of getting a job after college, in contrast to students pursuing fields of study where the job market is relatively much lower. Not getting a job after college often results in mental depression and other side effects which is more observed in students following a field with limited scope jobs.
However fields of study with higher job availability often get saturated since a huge number of students follow those fields resulting in lower jobs, therefore it may be possible that a student pursuing a field where he or she is not talented, and after completing they lack the job market as well as the experience of learning what they were skilled in.
A student should choose a field in which they are skilled which results in a happy state of mind, and even after college the student works in a field in which they are most comfortable in, however if the chosen field lacks the job market he or she may be affected, on the other hand students pursuing fields with higher job availability but having no talent in the field may score a job but may get affected in their job life doing something they don't love. Finally we may say that one should always study in a field in which they are talented but if that field is a dying field, one should reconsider the decision since it may not lead to better job prospects. Thus one should try to strike a balance between the two if possible getting the best of both worlds.
