Others believe that the most essential quality of an effective leader is the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives.

The crux of the matter is that both notions can be considered right contingent upon where they are applied. If the targeted society is a sophisticated one and leaders are elected based on merits, they are most likely eligible to make decisions based on their perspectives.
