Some people believe that in order to be effective, political leaders must yield to public opinion and abandon principle for the sake of compromise. Others believe that the most essential quality of an effective leader is the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives.

Political leaders are those who has chosen by the common people with believe that they can able to meet the need of the democracy. Different people have different expectations . So if the leaders seek public opinion for their action then clearly it will lead to chaos. So it is necessary that the leader should listen public opinion and compile them with own principle for their action.

Every political leader should have their own views, principles and moral virtues . It is true they have chosen by the people . So it is somehow moral obligation to listen their opinion. But it should also be necessary for leaders to stick with their own principles and take decisions accordingly. It may not please the entire people but majority of them at least understand the depth of the decision.

Leaders should have broad vision also. They should not think only about those people who have elected them, but also take care about other people also. Leader must aware about the future consequence about any decision they have made and the impact upon the people. Listening public opinion is necessary to understand the current demand and present situation. But public might be unaware about the greater consequence that can see by an envisioned political leader.

For example to prevent the increasing rate of unemployment American government made a strict rule regarding foreign visa. Now that step was welcomed by most of the unemployed people but the business giants who import cheap labors from third worlds were not satisfied at all. But after two three years when the problem seems weaken then all get the greater view of that decision.

So in conclusion we can say that public opinion are somehow superficial. Political leader should measure the weight of those opinions and judge them with their own principle so that their prudence judgments make assuage the need of larger population.
